The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
