Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments came to light.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a invitation to a public vigil that could enable a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the magistrate said data from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.
