Approximately twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after powerful weather events impacted the state, producing powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7cm in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that different parts across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units deployed to manage the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

At the same time, nearly 1,000 households in Victoria also experienced power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

State Emergency Services received over five hundred emergency reports across the region, mostly for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing - various emergency calls
• Wyndham - over 175 emergency requests

During the peak on the previous day, more than 28,000 power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the most rainy day, with persistent severe weather risk predicted across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Public health experts cautioned that there was an greater possibility of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
